Apple Watch Fall Detection and My Latest Accident

A newly unboxed Apple Watch

This afternoon I was driving a gasoline powered cargo cart at work when, in a hurry to get back to my office for an appointment, I took a corner too fast and overturned the vehicle in a parking lot. It rolled over on its side, trapping me inside amidst loose equipment and broken glass. My Apple Watch immediately tapped me on my wrist and displayed a message that it detected a fall/crash had taken place and asked if I wanted to contact 911. Since I was alright, I tapped "No" and then called a non-emergency number for help on my own. In relating this story to friends and family, I was surprised how many had questions about this watch feature, so I decided to link to some info about it for today's post.

The good news is Apple Watch Fall Detection uses the Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 4 or later series, which requires a synced iPhone, to detect a fall while the watch is being worn. This feature is included once you purchase an Apple Watch, so you don’t have to pay extra for it.
