I saw this painting at a traveling Norman Rockwell exhibition at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh. It was shown in a dimly lit area away from the rest of Rockwell's work. When I saw it, I felt as if I had been punched in the stomach and tears immediately came to my eyes. I've never been as affected by a work of art as I was by this.
