Pong Took the World by Storm
Like my grandfather's stories of riding in Ford Model T automobiles, my stories of playing pong on a home gaming console in the mid 70s amaze my grandchildren that I'm old enough to remember the time before video games. The game, developed by Atari and released in 1972 has an interesting history.
Pong facts:
- It was originally an arcade game
- Magnavox won a lawsuit against Atari for patent infringement regarding Pong
- The Pong console was the biggest selling item Sears had ever sold at one time
- There is a Pong game in the Smithsonian Museum of American History
- Steve Jobs worked for Atari in the Pong years and was exiled to the night shift for excessive body odor
