Remembering Tony Soprano

Tony-Soprano

When the Sopranos premiered on HBO, I didn't have subscription to the channel and my computer piracy was limited to Napster. I ignored the show until eventually my curiosity got the better of me. I succumbed the pressure of the New jersey mob and torrented the first five seasons of the show all at once and then like the rest of America, I had to wait until Sunday night rolled around for the next episode. I was just as flummoxed by the meaning of the last episode as everyone else. When James Gandolfini died in 2013, I realized we'd lost one of the truly great character actors of our generation. Although I believe The Wire to be the greatest TV show ever made, Gandolfini's performance of Tony Soprano, the therapy seeking mob boss beats out Omar, the gay tormentor of drug dealers played by Michael K. Williams on HBO's Baltimore showcase as the best character ever. Here a few links to rekindle some of the feelings we felt watching in reluctant horror as the story played out.
