The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich

Nazi rally at Nuremburg

In 1960, William Shirer published The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich, a book that brought the full weight of the monstrosity that had been Nazi Germany back into public consciousness. Concurrent with the capture and trial of Adolph Eichmann, the release of this book helped awaken America from the dangers of collective amnesia and fatigue it suffered in recovering from World War 2. He explained Hitler and the people who allowed him to rise to power, including the wealthy Germans who recognized Hitler as a buffoon, but on that could make them money.

In 2024, rich Americans are backing a buffoon for the same reason. Donald Trump works crowds into a frenzy by demonizing and dehumanizing immigrants, calling for mass deportations. When the left compares him to Hitler, they aren't wrong.
