Uncle Tupelo Created a Movement

Of all the bands I never got to hear, I think I regret missing Uncle Tupelo the most. Even if the musicians who were in the band are still playing in the popular and successful follow-ups, Wilco (led by Jeff Tweedy) and Son Volt (led by Jay Farrar). Uncle Tupelo was together for seven years from 1987 to 1994 and boke up before they achieved much commercial success due to friction between Tweedy and Farrar. They are regarded as one the founders of the alt-country movement, the so-called No Depression sound. Their style incorporated hard-core punk and the old time sounds of The Carter Family and their lyrics were straight out of the American heartland.
