You've Got to Go to Key West

There are a lot of places in the world where it would be nice to visit, but many are a stretch to get to, require a passport or are so overcrowded as to be unenjoyable. Still, if you look hard enough, you can find little slices of paradise that will captivate you for a short vacation or a long weekend. One such place, and one I can heartily recommend is Key West, Florida, the westernmost inhabited key, closer to Havana, Cuba than it is to Miami. Located way out in the Gulf of Mexico, you have to drive across 42 bridges between Key Largo and your destination to get there. Once in town, whether you are a partier or a tee-totaler like me, you can find all kinds of fun up and down Duvall Street, the main drag, including places like Sloppy Joes where former Key West resident Ernest Hemingway once hung out. Make sure to visit his former residence on the island and behold the six-toed cats that are descendants of his pets.
